Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Tuesday launched a blistering attack on the BJP-led West Bengal government, alleging that political violence and “revenge-driven intimidation” have intensified across the state following the change of power. Reacting to the deaths of two alleged TMC workers, Abhishek questioned whether supporting the Trinamool Congress in “BJP’s Bengal” had now become an invitation to violence and death.
In a strongly worded social media post, Abhishek claimed that two active Trinamool workers — Somnath Acharya from Saptagram and Tapan Sikdar from Chakdah — died after being brutally assaulted by what he described as “BJP-backed goons.” According to him, both men had suffered serious injuries during separate attacks and later died while undergoing treatment in hospital.

Expressing solidarity with the bereaved families, the Diamond Harbour MP accused the ruling establishment of allowing a climate of fear and political retaliation to spread across the state. “The death toll is rising, but cries for justice are going unheard because those in power have chosen to remain deaf,” Abhishek wrote.
He also launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging complete indifference from the BJP’s top leadership amid the violence. Abhishek claimed the police had become inactive, the courts were acting as silent spectators and BJP leaders were busy celebrating political victory while ordinary people faced intimidation.
The Trinamool leader alleged that Bengal was witnessing a dangerous phase of “revenge and vendetta politics” under the new BJP administration. According to TMC leaders, incidents of attacks on opposition workers have increased even as Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari holds meetings at Nabanna promising strict law and order measures.

Political observers believe Abhishek’s aggressive public messaging is part of the Trinamool Congress strategy to counter the BJP government’s recent administrative moves and high-profile actions against TMC leaders. The party is reportedly attempting to consolidate its grassroots support by portraying itself as the victim of political persecution under the new regime.
Abhishek had earlier attacked the BJP over incidents in East Midnapore’s Khejuri area, where at least 10 shops were gutted in a late-night fire in Janaka Gram Panchayat’s Paschim Bhangamari locality. Local residents had alleged that BJP-linked miscreants were behind the arson attack, claiming that despite police presence, the violence could not be stopped.
Referring to such incidents, Abhishek took a swipe at the BJP’s “double-engine government” slogan, calling the current situation in Bengal a “double-engine disaster.” He accused the BJP leadership of using fear, division and political hostility as tools to strengthen its control in the state.

The BJP, however, has repeatedly denied allegations of targeted violence and accused the Trinamool Congress of attempting to create political narratives to divert attention from corruption investigations and administrative failures.
