South Bengal Weather Update: Kolkata Braces for Thunderstorms, 50 kmph Gusty Winds and Evening Rain
South Bengal Weather Update predicts thunderstorms, lightning and rain in Kolkata and several districts, with winds reaching up to 50 kmph.

After days of unbearable heat and humid discomfort, a major change in weather is finally on the horizon for Kolkata and several South Bengal districts. According to the latest South Bengal Weather Update, thunderstorms accompanied by rain and gusty winds reaching up to 50 kmph are likely to hit parts of the state by Wednesday afternoon or evening, bringing temporary relief to heat-hit residents.

From early Wednesday morning, the weather across South Bengal remained unstable, with alternating sunshine and cloud cover creating intense humidity and hot winds. In many districts, conditions resembled a heatwave, leaving commuters exhausted even during the early hours of the day.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has now forecast thunderstorm activity and light to moderate rainfall in Kolkata and nearby districts over the next few hours.

Officials said the city sky is expected to remain partly cloudy throughout the day. Isolated spells of rain with thunder and lightning may occur in parts of Kolkata during the afternoon or evening.

Apart from Kolkata, districts including Purba Bardhaman, Nadia, Birbhum, Murshidabad, Paschim Medinipur and Jhargram are also likely to witness rainfall and thunderstorm activity.

The possibility of Kalbaisakhi conditions remains particularly high in Birbhum, Paschim Bardhaman and Nadia districts, where sudden strong winds and lightning could impact normal life during evening hours.

Meanwhile, North Bengal is also expected to experience unstable weather conditions. The weather office has warned that Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar may witness gusty winds blowing at speeds of 40 to 50 kmph.

The forecast for Thursday indicates the possibility of heavy rainfall in parts of Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Darjeeling districts as moisture-laden winds continue to strengthen over the Himalayan foothills.

Weather officials have advised people to remain cautious during thunderstorms, especially in open fields and exposed areas, due to the risk of lightning strikes and sudden strong winds.

While the expected rain may not completely end the ongoing heat spell, the changing weather pattern is likely to offer much-needed relief to residents struggling with soaring temperatures across Bengal over the past several days.
