Chaos Before Release: Suriya-Trisha’s ‘Karuppu’ Morning Shows Cancelled Across Tamil Nadu
Suriya and Trisha’s film Karuppu faced sudden show cancellations across Tamil Nadu as financial issues delayed the highly anticipated release.

Fans waiting for the first-day-first-show of Suriya and Trisha’s highly anticipated film Karuppu were left shocked after theatres across Tamil Nadu suddenly cancelled the early morning screenings just hours before release. What began as excitement around one of the year’s biggest Tamil releases quickly turned into confusion and disappointment, as producers and distributors cited financial complications behind the last-minute disruption.

The controversy erupted late Wednesday night when producer SR Prabhu, co-owner of Dream Warrior Pictures, announced on X that all 9 AM shows of Karuppu had been cancelled due to “unavoidable reasons.” The sudden update immediately triggered speculation online, especially because the film had reportedly secured special permission for early morning screenings in Tamil Nadu.

Soon after, distributor Vishnu Kamal clarified that the cancellation was linked to financial issues from the producers’ side. In a detailed statement, the distributor confirmed that both the 9:00 AM and 9:30 AM shows had been called off and refund processes for advance bookings had already begun at midnight.

The uncertainty did not stop there. Distributors later informed exhibitors that the noon and matinee screenings would also remain suspended as the release itself was expected to be delayed until evening.

“Just received a call from the distributor side informing us that Karuppu release is now expected only from this evening,” the statement read, adding that refunds for all cancelled shows would be processed shortly.

The unexpected developments triggered frustration among fans who had planned celebrations outside theatres and booked tickets days in advance. Several cinema halls across Tamil Nadu, including major theatre chains in Coimbatore and Chennai, publicly apologised to moviegoers for the inconvenience.

Broadway Cinemas in Coimbatore also confirmed the cancellation of noon shows and assured customers that refunds had already been initiated.

The release disruption has become a major talking point on social media, with hashtags related to Karuppu trending throughout the day. While the official statements pointed to financial complications, the timing of the chaos also fuelled fresh online gossip surrounding rumours involving Suriya, Trisha and actor Vijay. However, no official connection between the rumours and the release delay has been confirmed by the makers or the actors involved.

Industry insiders believe the incident highlights the growing financial pressure surrounding big-budget Tamil releases, where distribution clearances and last-minute settlements often play a critical role in theatrical rollouts.

Despite the confusion, fans remain hopeful that the film will finally hit screens without further delays. Karuppu, featuring Suriya and Trisha in lead roles, had generated massive anticipation due to its action-heavy trailer, star cast and strong pre-release buzz.

For now, disappointed audiences across Tamil Nadu are waiting for official confirmation on when normal screenings of the film will resume.
