Kolkata is set for major traffic restrictions on Saturday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits the city for the swearing-in ceremony of the newly formed West Bengal government at Brigade Parade Ground. In a significant move, Kolkata Police has announced a 16-hour ban on goods vehicles, alongside multiple traffic diversions across key routes.
According to an official notification issued by Police Commissioner Ajay Nanda on Friday, vehicular movement will be regulated on several important roads depending on the situation. These include Esplanade Ramp, K.P. Road, Hospital Road, Lovers Lane, Casuarina Avenue, and Queensway—areas expected to witness heavy security deployment and movement of dignitaries.

As part of the traffic management plan, the entry of goods vehicles into the city will be completely restricted from 4:00 am to 8:00 pm on Saturday. However, essential services have been exempted from this restriction. Vehicles carrying LPG cylinders, CNG, petroleum products, oil, lubricants, oxygen, vegetables, medicines, fish, fruits, and milk will be allowed to operate during this period.
Parking restrictions will also be enforced in several areas, particularly around Victoria Memorial and adjoining roads. No-parking zones will include stretches along AJC Bose Road up to Hastings Crossing, Cathedral Road, Kidderpore Road, Hospital Road, Queensway, and Lovers Lane.
Authorities have indicated that additional traffic measures may be implemented depending on ground conditions. Commuters have been advised to plan their travel in advance and avoid restricted zones to prevent inconvenience.

With heightened security arrangements and large gatherings expected for the مراسم, the city is bracing for a tightly controlled traffic environment throughout the day.
