West Bengal witnessed a historic political moment on Monday as Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari arrived at Nabanna for the first cabinet meeting of the state’s newly formed BJP government, receiving a ceremonial guard of honour amid music, red carpets and a symbolic cultural welcome. The police band played Rabindranath Tagore’s iconic composition “Anandaloke Mangalaloke” as Suvendu entered the state secretariat, marking the beginning of a new political chapter in Bengal.
The atmosphere at Nabanna was charged with both administrative significance and political symbolism. As the first BJP Chief Minister of West Bengal, Suvendu’s arrival at the state secretariat carried historic weight after decades of Left Front and Trinamool Congress rule in the state.

CM Suvendu Adhikari Receives Grand Guard of Honour at Nabanna Before First Cabinet Meet

Dressed formally and accompanied by senior leaders and officials, Suvendu walked along a red carpet before entering Nabanna. Police personnel presented a full ceremonial guard of honour while the police band performed Tagore’s revered song, widely associated with celebration and auspicious occasions in Bengal’s cultural tradition.
The use of “Anandaloke Mangalaloke” during the reception added a distinct Bengali cultural touch to the BJP government’s first official day at Nabanna. Written by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, the song remains one of the most celebrated Rabindra Sangeet compositions from the devotional and ceremonial genre.
Soon after the ceremonial reception, Suvendu headed into the state secretariat for the first cabinet meeting of the new BJP administration. The meeting is expected to outline the government’s early governance priorities and administrative roadmap.

The ministers who had taken oath alongside Suvendu at Brigade Parade Ground were also present for the occasion. Among them were Agnimitra Paul, Dilip Ghosh, Khudiram Tudu, Nisith Pramanik and Ashok Kirtania — all now part of Bengal’s first BJP-led cabinet.
Political observers noted that the elaborate reception at Nabanna reflected the BJP’s attempt to combine administrative transition with strong symbolic messaging, presenting the new government as both culturally rooted and politically assertive.
