Samim Effect in Magrahat Paschim: Humayun’s Candidate Joins TMC, Blow to AIMIM
On Akshaya Tritiya, Magrahat Paschim saw a major opposition setback as leaders from Am Janata Unnayan Party and AIMIM joined TMC, reshaping the electoral dynamics in the constituency

The political landscape in Magrahat Paschim witnessed a dramatic shift on the morning of Akshaya Tritiya, as two prominent opposition faces—Mohammad Abu Siddique Laskar of the Am Janata Unnayan Party and AIMIM organizer Habiba Laskar—joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) under the leadership of candidate Samim Ahmed. The sudden development has triggered intense buzz across the constituency, signaling a possible change in the electoral equation.

Earlier in the day, Samim Ahmed was leading a padyatra in the Uttar Kusum region after visiting the Karbala Hat Jame Masjid. At the same time, the two leaders were waiting at his party office. Soon after, they formally joined the TMC in his presence. Political observers see this as a significant setback for the opposition camp.

Mohammad Abu Siddique Laskar stated that contesting against a strong candidate like Samim Ahmed made little practical sense. He alleged that Humayun Kabir had misled him and accused him of attempting to influence the minority community through financial means. Distancing himself from such politics, Laskar said he chose to place his trust in the leadership of Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee and join the TMC.

On the other hand, AIMIM leader Habiba Laskar admitted that the party currently lacks a strong organizational base in West Bengal. Even if it manages to grow in the future, it would take considerable time. Prioritizing the immediate interests of the people, she decided to extend her support to Samim Ahmed and join the TMC.

In recent days, several supporters from ISF, AIMIM, and the Am Janata Unnayan Party across multiple gram panchayat areas of Magrahat Paschim have been shifting allegiance to the TMC. According to political analysts, this trend is significantly strengthening Samim Ahmed’s position, making his victory in the upcoming election increasingly likely.

Samim Ahmed described the defections as a reflection of public support. He asserted that the people of Bengal stand for development and stability and are inclined to follow the path shown by Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee. Taking a swipe at the BJP, he added that the people of Bengal would reject politics driven by money power.
