A grieving mother’s explosive allegations have added a sharp political edge to the murder of Chandranath Rath, a close aide of Suvendu Adhikari, as investigators race against time to identify the killers. Even 10 hours after the fatal shooting, the main accused remain at large, with CCTV footage now emerging as a key focus of the probe.
On Thursday morning, teams of investigators, including officials from the CID, revisited the crime scene to gather fresh evidence and reconstruct the sequence of events. Sources indicate that multiple CCTV clips from the area are being carefully analysed in an effort to track down the attackers. Despite the heightened activity on the ground, no breakthrough has yet been reported.
Meanwhile, grief has engulfed Rath’s family home in East Midnapore. His mother, Hasi Rani Rath, broke down while speaking to reporters, demanding the harshest possible punishment for those responsible for her son’s death. Her anguish quickly turned into a serious allegation, as she claimed that the killing was not random but politically motivated.
Calling the incident a “planned act,” she accused members of the Trinamool Congress of orchestrating the murder as an act of revenge following the electoral defeat of Mamata Banerjee. “They had openly warned that no one would be spared after the results. Now they have shown what they meant,” she alleged, urging the new administration to ensure justice.
Hasi Rani Rath further claimed that her son had been actively involved in political responsibilities across key constituencies such as Bhabanipur, Nandigram, and Chandipur during the elections, which may have made him a target. “I believe my son was killed as retaliation after Suvendu Adhikari defeated Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur,” she said.
Her remarks have intensified the already volatile political atmosphere surrounding the case. However, no official confirmation has been made regarding any political angle in the investigation so far.
As the probe continues, law enforcement agencies remain focused on forensic evidence and surveillance inputs to establish the motive and identify those behind the killing. The case is expected to draw significant attention in the coming days, both for its criminal and political implications.
