Petrol Crosses ₹110 Mark in Indian Cities as Fuel Prices Surge After Global Oil Shock
Petrol prices crossed ₹110 per litre in Hyderabad and Thiruvananthapuram as rising crude oil costs triggered a major fuel price hike across India.

Fuel prices across India witnessed a sharp spike on May 15 after rising crude oil prices in the international market and escalating tensions in West Asia pushed petrol and diesel rates significantly higher. In several cities, petrol prices jumped by as much as ₹3.60 per litre overnight, taking fuel costs to record highs and putting fresh pressure on household budgets and transportation expenses.

Hyderabad has emerged as the costliest city for petrol in the country after the latest revision. Petrol prices there increased by ₹3.39 per litre, taking the new rate to ₹110.89 per litre. Thiruvananthapuram followed closely behind, where petrol prices climbed by ₹3.37 to reach ₹110.75 per litre.

Kolkata now ranks among the cities with the highest petrol prices in India. Following an increase of ₹3.29 per litre, petrol in the city is now priced at ₹108.74 per litre. Patna also recorded steep rates, with petrol touching ₹108.55 per litre, while Jaipur saw prices rise to ₹108.19 per litre. In Mumbai, petrol is now retailing at ₹106.64 per litre.

The surge in prices has largely been attributed to rising international crude oil rates and geopolitical uncertainty in West Asia, which has impacted global energy markets. State-level VAT and local taxes have further widened the price gap between cities, especially in eastern and southern India.

Diesel prices have also registered a major increase across the country. Thiruvananthapuram recorded the highest diesel price, where rates jumped by ₹3.37 per litre to reach ₹99.63 per litre. Hyderabad followed with diesel being sold at ₹98.96 per litre.

Bhubaneswar currently ranks third among Indian cities with the highest diesel prices. There, diesel prices rose by ₹3.56 per litre to touch ₹96.11 per litre. Chennai recorded diesel prices at ₹95.47 per litre, while Kolkata saw rates rise to ₹95.13 per litre.

Compared to these cities, fuel prices in Delhi remain relatively lower. Petrol in the national capital is currently priced at ₹97.77 per litre, while diesel is being sold at ₹90.67 per litre.

With transportation costs expected to rise further, experts believe the latest fuel price hike could have a direct impact on inflation and daily consumer spending across the country.
