BJP Leader Files Complaint Against TMC Candidate Jahangir Khan Over Alleged Illegal Assets
BJP leader Bidhan Parui has accused TMC candidate Jahangir Khan of acquiring disproportionate assets and demanded investigation into alleged illegal transactions.

Fresh political controversy has erupted in South 24 Parganas after BJP leader Bidhan Parui lodged a formal complaint against Trinamool Congress candidate Jahangir Khan, accusing him of amassing massive wealth through illegal financial transactions and disproportionate assets. The allegations, now submitted to local police, the district police superintendent, and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), have intensified the political temperature ahead of the elections.

According to the complaint filed at Falta Police Station, Jahangir Khan and several members of his family allegedly acquired crores worth of movable and immovable assets over the years, despite having no visible legal income source matching such rapid financial growth. The BJP leader has claimed that the scale of property accumulation raises serious questions about possible financial irregularities and unlawful transactions.

Jahangir Khan has held several influential political positions over the past decade. Between 2013 and 2018, he served as the head of the Belsinga Gram Panchayat. Later, from 2018 to 2023, he was the president of the Falta Panchayat Samiti. He currently holds the post of Public Works Karmadhyaksha in the district council.

Bidhan Parui alleged that the financial rise of Jahangir and his family members took place within a relatively short span of time and warrants a detailed investigation by the authorities. He further claimed that similar allegations had also been submitted before the South 24 Parganas district administration in 2022.

According to the complainant, despite instructions for necessary action at that time, no effective step was taken by the authorities. The matter was later moved to the Calcutta High Court through a public interest litigation petition.

Responding to the latest allegations, Jahangir Khan dismissed the charges and said the matter had already been examined earlier. “They had approached the court regarding the same issue before. The court dismissed the case,” he said.

The allegations have once again triggered political sparring in the district, with opposition parties demanding a thorough probe into the financial dealings linked to public representatives.
