From gazing at the stars to topping the West Bengal Higher Secondary examination, Adrit Pal’s journey is already inspiring thousands of students across the state. The Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission student secured the top position in WB HS 2026 with an impressive score of 496, but beyond academics, the young achiever is also known among friends and family as a passionate food lover with a deep curiosity about the universe.
Adrit, a resident of Baranagar, said he always hoped to perform well in the examination, but never imagined he would secure the first rank in the state. His achievement marks a remarkable comeback after narrowly missing a top spot in the Madhyamik examination, where he had ranked 11th.

Reflecting on that earlier result, Adrit admitted that small mistakes had cost him valuable marks. Determined not to repeat them, he focused more carefully on his studies during Classes XI and XII.
“There were several mistakes in Madhyamik. I worked on those areas seriously afterwards,” he said after the results were announced.

Adrit studied at the residential Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya in Narendrapur, where discipline, academics and extracurricular activities went hand in hand. Unlike many toppers who follow rigid hourly schedules, Adrit says he never believed in studying by the clock. However, the structured environment of the residential school helped him maintain consistency and balance.
Alongside academics, sports and daily activities remained part of his routine throughout school life.
What makes Adrit’s story even more relatable is his love for food. The state topper proudly describes himself as a “food enthusiast” who enjoys exploring different flavours whenever he gets time away from books.

According to him, his mother’s cooking remains his favourite comfort food, though he is always eager to try new dishes and tastes.
Despite his light-hearted love for food, Adrit’s long-term ambitions are deeply scientific. Fascinated by stars and the mysteries of space since childhood, he now wants to pursue higher studies in Astronomy and Astrophysics.
He credits his family and school for shaping his success. Raised in a close-knit family with his parents, Adrit spent most of his growing years at the Ramakrishna Mission residential campus, which he says played a huge role in building his discipline and confidence.
“I could achieve this because of my family and my school,” he said, adding that he had not expected such an extraordinary result.
Teachers and education experts believe Adrit’s achievement reflects not only academic excellence but also emotional maturity and self-awareness — qualities that helped him identify and correct his weaknesses after Madhyamik.
Now, after conquering the biggest school examination of his life, the astronomy-loving topper is preparing for an even bigger dream: exploring the mysteries of the universe.
