Suvendu Govt Takes Responsibility for Families of 321 BJP Workers
CM Suvendu Adhikari announced support for families of 321 BJP workers allegedly killed in political violence across West Bengal.

In one of the most politically significant announcements made by Bengal’s new BJP government, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday declared that the state would take responsibility for the families of 321 BJP workers allegedly killed in incidents of political violence over the years. The announcement came immediately after the first cabinet meeting at Nabanna and was accompanied by a strong message on justice, compensation and political accountability.

Calling them “victims of political terror,” Suvendu paid tribute to the deceased party workers and said the BJP government considers their sacrifice central to the party’s rise to power in West Bengal.

Addressing reporters after the cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister said the new administration had decided to extend social and institutional support to the families of the 321 slain BJP workers. While the government is yet to officially detail the nature of assistance, sources indicated that financial aid, rehabilitation support and other welfare measures may be part of the package.

Suvendu also assured that cases related to the deaths of BJP workers during previous political clashes would be reviewed seriously and that the families would receive justice under the new administration.

“The BJP government in Bengal has been formed through the sacrifice and struggle of countless party workers,” Suvendu reportedly said while expressing gratitude toward those who “laid down their lives during years of political conflict.”

The announcement is expected to trigger major political debate in the state, particularly because allegations of political violence had dominated Bengal’s electoral discourse for years. BJP leaders repeatedly accused the previous regime of failing to protect opposition workers and allowing politically motivated attacks across districts.

Political observers believe the move is aimed not only at supporting affected families but also at reinforcing the BJP’s long-standing narrative around political violence in Bengal.

The decision also signals that the new government intends to keep issues related to post-poll violence and political clashes at the centre of its administrative and political agenda in the coming months.
