In a heartbreaking turn of events, Bollywood actress Malaika Arora and her sister Amrita Arora lost their father, Anil Mehta, on Wednesday morning. He was 62 years old. According to reports from the news agency ANI, Malaika issued an emotional statement on her Instagram account later in the day, expressing the deep sorrow her family is going through.
Malaika’s statement read: “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear father, Anil Mehta. He was a gentle soul, a devoted grandfather, a loving husband, and our best friend. Our family is in deep shock by this loss and we kindly request privacy from the media and well-wishers during this difficult time. We appreciate your understanding, support, and respect.” The statement was signed by family members Joyce, Malaika, Amrita, Shakeel, Arhaan, Azaan, Rayyan, Casper, Axl, Duffy, and Buddy.

Reports from PTI revealed that Anil Mehta died under tragic circumstances in Bandra, Mumbai. According to a police official, he allegedly fell from the sixth floor of a building in the area. Though authorities rushed him to the hospital, he was declared dead before arrival.
While initial reports suggested suicide, the exact cause of the fall remains under investigation. A source close to the family told PTI, “It’s true that Malaika’s father passed away this morning, but it was not suicide. It’s being considered an accident. The family is in shock, especially as he had no known ailments.” The source added that the police ‘panchnama’ (official report) would provide more clarity on the incident.
Investigation Continues
Mumbai police have yet to officially determine the cause of death. A spokesperson told the press, “We are investigating everything… prima facie it looks like suicide, but we are conducting further investigation to ascertain the facts.”
A Family in Mourning
Anil Mehta’s passing has deeply affected the entire family. Malaika’s parents had separated when she was just 11 years old, after which she, along with her mother Joyce Polycarp and sister Amrita, moved to Chembur. Her father, Anil Mehta, was a Punjabi Hindu and worked in the Indian Merchant Navy, while her mother hails from a Malayali Christian background.
