A year after India’s high-impact “Operation Sindoor,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi reignited national attention by updating his social media profile with the mission’s emblem, while the Indian Air Force issued a strong message: “India never forgets, India never forgives.” The symbolic gestures have brought the anniversary of the military operation back into sharp focus, underlining its continuing strategic and political significance.
On Thursday, Modi changed the profile picture of his X (formerly Twitter) account to the widely recognised logo of Operation Sindoor, the retaliatory mission launched on May 7 last year following a deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam. The move coincided with a video released by the Indian Air Force, which reinforced a firm stance against terrorism and its backers.

In a message posted on X, the Prime Minister praised the armed forces, calling the operation a testament to the courage, patriotism, and unwavering commitment of India’s soldiers. He noted that the success of Operation Sindoor remains a source of immense pride for the nation, reflecting both strategic precision and the indomitable spirit of the forces.

The IAF’s video also featured a past statement by Modi, delivered in April 2024 shortly after the Pahalgam attack. In that address, he had vowed that every terrorist and their supporters would be tracked down and punished. The video reiterates that message, declaring that justice has been delivered with precision and that the operation’s impact continues to resonate.
Operation Sindoor was launched in response to a terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives. In the early hours of May 7, Indian forces carried out targeted strikes on multiple terror camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Long-range missile systems were reportedly used to execute the strikes with high accuracy.

The escalation led to retaliatory action from Pakistan, but Indian authorities maintained that their defence systems effectively neutralised the threats and carried out counterstrikes. During the brief but intense confrontation, the Indian Air Force is said to have secured dominance in the air, a factor widely believed to have influenced Pakistan’s subsequent call for de-escalation.
A ceasefire agreement between the two sides came into effect on May 10 last year, bringing an end to the hostilities. However, the anniversary of Operation Sindoor serves as a reminder of India’s assertive military posture and its declared zero-tolerance approach towards terrorism.
