West Bengal Police have intensified action against objectionable social media content after two content creators from Dinhata were arrested for allegedly posting an abusive video targeting Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. The arrests, carried out swiftly after complaints surfaced online, signal the administration’s tougher approach toward offensive and inflammatory content on digital platforms following the recent political change in the state.
The accused have been identified as Majinur Rahman and Ali Hossain, both residents of Dinhata and locally known for creating social media content. According to police officials, the duo allegedly uploaded a video containing abusive language directed at the Chief Minister. The clip quickly circulated across social media platforms, triggering complaints and prompting immediate police action.

Acting on the allegations, Dinhata Police launched an investigation and arrested both individuals from the area. Officials confirmed that legal proceedings have been initiated and further investigation is underway to determine the full extent of the content circulated online.
Police authorities issued a stern warning following the arrests, stating that no individual would be allowed to use social media platforms to post abusive, defamatory or provocative content against any person. Officials also stressed that content capable of hurting religious sentiments or disturbing public harmony would invite strict legal consequences.
According to police sources, awareness campaigns are also being conducted across different police station areas to educate citizens about responsible behaviour on social media. Meetings are reportedly being organised to sensitise people about the legal implications of objectionable online posts and digital misconduct.

Authorities reiterated that freedom of expression on social media does not permit the use of abusive language, hate speech or inflammatory content against individuals or communities. Police officials said monitoring of online activity has been strengthened and any post violating legal norms would be dealt with firmly.
The incident comes at a time when the police administration in West Bengal is visibly adopting a more aggressive enforcement strategy after the recent change in government. Since coming to power, the BJP-led administration has repeatedly emphasised a “zero tolerance” approach toward unlawful activities and online misconduct.
The latest arrests are likely to fuel fresh political debate around freedom of speech, digital accountability and the growing role of law enforcement in regulating social media content in the state.
