Ritabrata Congratulates Suvendu and Shovondeb, Calls for Constructive Politics
Former MP and newly elected TMC MLA Ritabrata Banerjee congratulated CM Suvendu Adhikari and Opposition leader Shovondeb Chattopadhyay.

In a significant political gesture amid Bengal’s shifting power equations, newly elected Trinamool Congress MLA and former MP Ritabrata Banerjee publicly congratulated Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and Leader of the Opposition Shovondeb Chattopadhyay, expressing hope for “constructive and meaningful” Assembly proceedings in the days ahead. His message, posted on social media, has drawn attention across political circles for its conciliatory tone at a time of intense rivalry between the ruling BJP and the opposition Trinamool Congress.

Ritabrata, who recently won from the Uluberia Purba Assembly constituency, shared the message through his official Facebook page on Monday. In the post, he extended “heartfelt greetings and congratulations” to Suvendu Adhikari after the BJP formed the government in West Bengal for the first time.

He also congratulated senior Trinamool leader Shovondeb Chattopadhyay on becoming the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly.

“I look forward to positive and constructive sessions in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly,” Ritabrata wrote, signalling a more democratic and issue-based political approach despite the sharp political transition in the state.

Political observers believe the message is noteworthy because it comes at a time when Bengal’s political atmosphere remains highly charged following the dramatic change in power. The BJP now sits in the treasury benches, while the Trinamool Congress has moved into the opposition for the first time in over a decade.

Ritabrata’s remarks are being interpreted by some as an appeal for healthier parliamentary functioning inside the Assembly rather than aggressive confrontation. Others believe the statement reflects an attempt by younger opposition leaders to position themselves as advocates of constructive democratic engagement.

The former Rajya Sabha MP has remained an active political figure within the Trinamool Congress despite changing organisational dynamics in recent years. His latest message has now added a fresh dimension to the evolving political narrative in Bengal’s new Assembly phase.
