West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday began the first full working day of the BJP government with a packed political and administrative schedule, travelling from the BJP’s Salt Lake headquarters to Nabanna for the new government’s first cabinet meeting and a series of crucial review sessions with top officials. The day is being seen as the formal beginning of the BJP’s governance model in Bengal after its historic rise to power in the state.
After the election victory and swearing-in ceremony, the focus has now shifted from politics to governance. Suvendu, who campaigned heavily on promises of administrative reform and the vision of a “Sonar Bangla”, appeared determined to hit the ground running from day one as Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister left his Chinar Park residence on Monday morning and reached state BJP president Samik Bhattacharya’s residence in Salt Lake around 9:30 AM. Local residents and party supporters welcomed him with flower garlands before both leaders travelled together in the same vehicle to the BJP’s state headquarters.
The BJP office in Salt Lake had been specially decorated for Suvendu’s first visit after taking oath as Chief Minister. Party workers prepared a ceremonial welcome with flowers, traditional rituals and a symbolic garland made with 207 lotus flowers, reflecting the BJP’s seat tally in the Assembly election. Women party workers were also seen waiting with ceremonial trays to greet the new Chief Minister.
Before heading to Nabanna, Suvendu held an organisational meeting at the party headquarters to discuss coordination between the government and the party structure. Sources said the discussions focused on administrative priorities and strengthening the BJP’s organisational network across districts.

The Chief Minister is scheduled to reach Nabanna for the first cabinet meeting of the BJP government, expected to begin around 11 AM. Reports suggest he may receive a formal guard of honour upon arrival at the state secretariat.
Apart from the cabinet session, Suvendu is also expected to chair three major administrative meetings through the day. He will first meet senior secretaries of various departments, followed by a meeting with district magistrates. Later in the evening, he is likely to hold a high-level law-and-order review with senior police officials, including the Director General of Police, the Kolkata Police Commissioner and top officers from different police zones.
Security arrangements at Nabanna were thoroughly reviewed on Sunday ahead of the Chief Minister’s arrival. Kolkata Police Commissioner Ajay Nanda and Howrah Police Commissioner Akhilesh Chaturvedi personally inspected the premises along with senior officers. Police officials also conducted a detailed security assessment of the conference hall where Suvendu is scheduled to hold meetings throughout the day.

Monday’s developments are being closely watched across the political spectrum, as the BJP government begins shaping its administrative priorities in West Bengal for the first time.
