Suvendu Govt Cracks Down on Syndicates, Cattle Smuggling Ahead of First Cabinet Meet
CM Suvendu Adhikari’s office directed SPs to crack down on syndicates and cattle smuggling ahead of Bengal BJP government’s first cabinet meeting.

West Bengal’s newly formed BJP government has moved swiftly to signal a tough administrative reset, with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s office reportedly directing district police chiefs to take immediate action against syndicate networks and cattle smuggling operations across the state. The instructions came just hours before the first cabinet meeting of the new government at Nabanna, marking a dramatic start to Bengal’s new political era.

With the BJP officially taking charge in West Bengal after decades of Left and Trinamool dominance, Nabanna and Writers’ Buildings are now witnessing the beginning of a new power structure. Soon after taking oath, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari appears determined to establish a law-and-order-first administration, focusing on issues that the BJP repeatedly highlighted during its election campaign.

According to sources in the state administration, senior police officials, including Superintendents of Police across multiple districts, have received strict instructions to intensify action against illegal syndicate operations and interstate cattle smuggling networks. The message from the Chief Minister’s Office is being viewed as one of the first major policy signals of the new BJP government.

The crackdown assumes political significance because syndicate activities and cattle smuggling had become major points of confrontation between the BJP and the previous Trinamool Congress government. During the election campaign, BJP leaders frequently accused the former administration of failing to curb organised illegal networks operating in several districts.

Monday also marks the first working day of the BJP government in Bengal. Suvendu is scheduled to chair the first cabinet meeting at Nabanna, where key administrative priorities and governance strategies are expected to be discussed. Several high-level review meetings with bureaucrats, district officials and senior police officers are also lined up through the day.

Officials said the government wants to send a strong message to the administration from day one that law enforcement and anti-corruption measures will remain top priorities under the new regime. The developments are likely to be closely watched both politically and administratively, as the BJP begins shaping its governance model in Bengal.
