Tight Security at Nabanna as CM Suvendu Adhikari Prepares for First Visit
Heavy security deployed at Nabanna as Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari prepares for his first official visit, with top police officials reviewing arrangements ahead of key meetings.

West Bengal’s new Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is set to step into Nabanna for the first time on Monday, triggering heightened security measures across the state’s administrative headquarters. With multiple high-level meetings scheduled, Kolkata and Howrah Police have intensified surveillance, conducting detailed inspections to ensure a seamless and secure visit.

Security arrangements were stepped up on Sunday afternoon, when Kolkata Police Commissioner Ajay Nanda and Howrah Police Commissioner Akhilesh Chaturvedi personally visited Nabanna along with senior officers. The team carried out a comprehensive review of the premises, assessing existing arrangements and identifying areas requiring reinforcement. Special attention was given to the main conference hall, where the Chief Minister is expected to hold his first official administrative meeting around noon.

Officials said security has been tightened not only inside the building but also across the surrounding areas, including entry and exit points, vehicle movement routes, and parking zones. Following the inspection, both commissioners held a closed-door meeting to finalize the security blueprint for Monday’s कार्यक्रम.

Adhikari’s schedule for the day is packed. He is expected to begin with a बैठक involving top bureaucrats of the state. Later in the day, he may chair a meeting with district magistrates, followed by another with senior পুলিশ officials in the evening. Sources indicate that the Director General of Police, the Kolkata Police Commissioner, and senior officers from various zones will be present.

Soon after taking oath on Saturday, the Chief Minister had already held a preliminary review meeting with Chief Secretary Dushmant Nariala, Home Secretary Sanghamitra Ghosh, and DGP Siddhanath Gupta. That meeting, held at a temporary setup in Dharmatala, focused on assessing the overall law and order situation in the state.

Meanwhile, speculation continues over the expansion of the new cabinet. Alongside Adhikari, five ministers—Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Nisith Pramanik, and Khudiram Tudu—have already been sworn in. Party sources suggest that the remaining members of the cabinet could take oath on Monday, with Governor RN Ravi likely to administer the oath at Lok Bhavan. Portfolio allocations are also expected to be announced soon after.
