In the aftermath of a crushing electoral setback, the Trinamool Congress has moved swiftly to rein in dissent within its ranks, issuing show-cause notices to five of its spokespersons over alleged anti-party remarks. The leaders have been asked to respond within 24 hours, signaling the party’s zero-tolerance stance on internal criticism at a time of political crisis.
The notices have been served to Riju Dutta, Krishnendu Chowdhury, Kohinoor Majumdar, Papiya Ghosh, and Kartik Ghosh. The action comes days after the party’s disappointing performance in the Assembly elections, where it managed to secure only 80 seats, while the বিজেপি swept ahead with 207 seats.

Following the results, several party leaders, including former MLAs and spokespersons, publicly questioned the role of the top leadership in the electoral defeat. These remarks appear to have triggered disciplinary action from the party’s high command.
The show-cause notices were issued by Derek O’Brien on behalf of the party’s disciplinary committee. The five leaders have been asked to explain why action should not be taken against them for violating party discipline.
Sources indicate that at least two of the recipients have already prepared detailed replies. One spokesperson revealed that responses ranging from two to four-and-a-half pages are being submitted. Speaking on condition of anonymity, one of them said, “I will submit my reply as required. But I must add that several party members, including three outgoing ministers, have reached out to express support. I have only articulated what many within the party are feeling.”

The development highlights growing internal unease within the Trinamool Congress following its electoral defeat, even as the leadership attempts to maintain organizational discipline and cohesion.
