Not Just Promises, But Commitment: Shamim Ahmed Unveils Development Roadmap in Magrahat West
Shamim Ahmed unveils a detailed development roadmap in Magrahat West, focusing on healthcare, education, roads and water, reinforcing TMC’s governance narrative

Ahead of the elections, the Trinamool Congress has sharpened its development narrative in Magrahat West, with candidate Shamim Ahmed unveiling a detailed “development pledge plaque” that outlines a concrete roadmap for the constituency. More than a symbolic gesture, the initiative is being projected as a binding commitment to voters—reinforcing the party’s focus on governance and grassroots delivery.

The unveiling ceremony witnessed significant public participation, underlining the political importance of the moment. Addressing the gathering, Shamim Ahmed emphasized that the plaque represents accountability rather than mere electoral promises. According to him, the Trinamool Congress believes in “work-oriented politics,” where development is visible and directly impacts people’s lives.

The roadmap highlights a series of key projects aimed at strengthening healthcare, education, infrastructure, and basic amenities. Among the major proposals is the establishment of a super-speciality hospital near the Capital Guest House area to enhance local healthcare access. Additionally, plans for a modern block facility in Lakshmikantapur have been outlined to improve administrative and civic services.

In the education sector, the proposal includes the construction of a second academic building and advanced laboratory facilities at Polerhat College, aimed at expanding higher education opportunities in the region. Infrastructure development also features prominently, with commitments to improve rural road connectivity and transportation networks across multiple areas.

Water management and environmental sustainability form another critical pillar of the plan. The roadmap includes initiatives such as pond excavation, waterbody restoration, and expansion of irrigation facilities. There are also proposals to strengthen the supply of safe drinking water, particularly in underserved pockets.

Further, the plan envisions the construction of a modern auditorium, upgrades to block-level healthcare facilities, and enhanced drinking water systems at Usti More. In a bid to tap into local economic potential, the proposal also includes the development of an eco-tourism center under the Usti Gram Panchayat.

Taking a swipe at the BJP, Shamim Ahmed accused the opposition of relying on divisive politics and unrealistic pre-election assurances. In contrast, he asserted that Trinamool’s track record of delivering on development across sectors like education and healthcare speaks for itself.

Party leaders pointed to the turnout at the event as evidence of growing public confidence. According to them, voters in Magrahat West are increasingly aligning with “development politics” over rhetoric.

With elections approaching, the unveiling of this development blueprint adds a sharper edge to the political contest in the constituency. The real test, however, will be whether these commitments translate into electoral support.
