Abhishek Banerjee Urges Striking Junior Doctors to Call Off Protest, Promises Security Measures in 14 Days

Trinamool Congress MP and party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has urged the striking junior doctors in West Bengal to withdraw their protest, assuring them that their demand for enhanced security in medical institutions will be addressed within 14 days. Banerjee stated that all necessary safety measures, including the installation of CCTV cameras and infrastructural improvements as per Supreme Court guidelines, will be implemented in every medical college and hospital across the state within this period.

During his appeal, Banerjee acknowledged that most of the doctors’ demands are “legitimate and reasonable.” He also emphasized that the junior doctors should now consider resuming work to continue serving the public in cooperation with the government. The protest by junior doctors, primarily triggered by the recent incident at RG Kar Hospital, led to the transfer of high-ranking officials, including the Kolkata Police Commissioner and Director of Health Services, after negotiations with the government.
