Kolkata Weather Update: City Braces for 36°C Heat, Thunderstorm Likely by Evening
Kolkata weather on Wednesday may turn extremely uncomfortable with 36°C heat and RealFeel near 46°C before evening thunderstorms arrive.

Kolkata is set for another day of intense heat and humidity on Wednesday, with the maximum temperature expected to touch 36 degrees Celsius while the RealFeel may soar close to a scorching 46 degrees. However, relief could arrive later in the evening as forecasts indicate a strong possibility of thunderstorms and scattered rain across Kolkata and several districts of South Bengal.

According to the latest Kolkata weather update, the city will begin the day under mostly sunny skies. Discomfort is likely to increase sharply after 8 AM as humidity levels remain extremely high, making conditions feel far hotter than the actual temperature.

Morning temperatures are expected to hover around 35 degrees Celsius, with humidity levels near 75 percent. The sticky weather is likely to trigger severe sweating and a suffocating atmosphere across the city.

Weather conditions may worsen further during the afternoon. The mercury could peak at 36 degrees Celsius, but the RealFeel temperature may climb to nearly 46 degrees due to excessive moisture in the air. Meteorologists have warned that prolonged outdoor exposure during this period could cause significant discomfort.

Cloud cover is expected to increase gradually in the late afternoon, although rain chances during daytime hours will remain limited. The situation may change after sunset, with forecasts predicting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and scattered showers in Kolkata and nearby districts.

The probability of evening rain has been estimated at nearly 65 percent. Weather officials also indicated that gusty winds could accompany the thunderstorms in some areas.

Night temperatures are likely to dip slightly to around 29 degrees Celsius. However, humidity may rise close to 90 percent, meaning the post-rain atmosphere could still remain sticky and uncomfortable.

A similar weather pattern is expected across several South Bengal districts, including Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, Purba Medinipur and parts of Nadia. Light to moderate thunderstorms may occur in these regions during the evening hours, with wind speeds ranging between 25 and 30 kilometres per hour in isolated places.

In North Bengal, Darjeeling and Kalimpong are likely to witness partly cloudy skies along with light rainfall in a few pockets. But the plains of North Bengal are expected to continue experiencing humid and uncomfortable weather conditions.

Meteorologists believe the current rise in heat and humidity is mainly due to a strong inflow of moisture from the Bay of Bengal. At the same time, local atmospheric instability is helping thunderclouds develop over parts of the state, increasing the chances of evening storms.

Residents have been advised to avoid staying outdoors for long during the afternoon unless necessary. Experts are also urging people to stay hydrated and remain indoors or in safe shelters during lightning activity later in the evening.
