In a surprising turn of events, the weather forecast for West Bengal has been altered just ahead of the Durga Puja celebrations. A sudden shift in predictions has led to warnings being issued in 19 districts. The question on everyone’s mind is: what will the weather be like in the coming days?

Today, various districts in South Bengal, including Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, East Medinipur, West Medinipur, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, East Burdwan, West Burdwan, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia, are expected to experience light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms. A yellow alert has been issued in every district, expanding from the initial four districts that were earlier placed under warning.

In North Bengal, areas in all districts, including Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, and Malda, are also expected to witness light to moderate rain with thunderstorms today. However, only four districts—Jalpaiguri, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, and Malda—have been officially placed under alert.

As for Kolkata, the weather today is predicted to be mostly cloudy, with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms expected. The maximum temperature in Kolkata may hover around 31 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature could be around 26 degrees Celsius. The highest recorded temperature today was 30.1 degrees, which is 2.7 degrees below normal, and the lowest was 25.4 degrees, slightly below the normal by 0.4 degrees.

On Monday, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is again expected in various parts of South Bengal, including Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, East Medinipur, West Medinipur, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, East Burdwan, West Burdwan, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia. A yellow alert has been issued in four districts: North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, East Medinipur, and West Medinipur.

For Tuesday and Wednesday, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is anticipated in three districts of North Bengal: Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Kalimpong. In the remaining five districts—Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, and Malda—rain could occur in one or two areas, but no alert has been issued.

Throughout Tuesday to Friday, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is expected across all districts of South Bengal, while Saturday may see rain in one or two places in the region. On Wednesday (Shashthi), significant rain with thunderstorms is expected in North Bengal, particularly in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Kalimpong, with potential rainfall in several areas of Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, and Malda.
