The long-standing legal battle over pending Dearness Allowance (DA) for West Bengal government employees has taken a significant turn. In a recent Supreme Court hearing, the bench comprising Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Manoj Misra discussed the matter of unpaid DA and reportedly advised the West Bengal Government to consider paying at least 50% of the pending amount to the employees without further delay.
⚖️ Financial Constraints Cited, But Court Pushes for Relief
During the hearing, the state government’s legal representatives argued that the financial condition of the government does not currently allow for such a substantial disbursement. They stressed the economic strain and attempted to oppose the suggestion of immediate payment.
Despite this, the Supreme Court emphasized the prolonged nature of the litigation and the need for a fair resolution. The court indicated that continuous delays could further complicate matters and possibly even lead to cost implications for the state if they fail to act in a reasonable timeframe.
💡 A Ray of Hope for Government Employees
For the thousands of state government employees who have been battling for years for their rightful DA, the court’s latest stance has sparked fresh hope and enthusiasm. Many see this as the first major step toward getting justice, especially after multiple delays and nearly 18 postponed hearings in the case.
Employees and their unions have expressed optimism that the final verdict could go in their favor, especially considering the Supreme Court’s observations and tone during the latest proceedings.
📅 Hearing Scheduled for Today: Will It Finally Begin?
Today, the DA case is scheduled for hearing once again in the Supreme Court at 2 PM, under the bench of Justice Karol and Justice Misra. Notably, the case has already been deferred 18 times, including earlier this very week.
The apex court had previously mentioned that the case would require long and detailed hearings, signaling its complexity and importance. Now, all eyes are on whether the proceedings will finally begin today and what direction the court takes next.
