Kangana Ranaut Apologizes and Withdraws Farm Law Remarks After BJP Criticism

BJP MP Kangana Ranaut faced backlash over her recent comments regarding the three farm laws repealed in 2021. Following criticism from her party, she apologized and retracted her statements. Ranaut’s remarks sparked a political firestorm, drawing sharp responses from opposition parties like Congress and AAP.

Kangana’s Controversial Comments on Farm Laws

During a press interaction in her Lok Sabha constituency, Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, Kangana Ranaut suggested that the three farm laws, which were rolled back in November 2021 after massive protests, should be reintroduced. She even called upon the farmers to demand the return of these laws. “I know this will be controversial… but I feel the farm laws that were repealed should be brought back,” she said, further adding that farmers should demand their re-implementation for their benefit.

BJP’s Response: Personal Views, Not Party’s Stand

The Bharatiya Janata Party swiftly distanced itself from Ranaut’s remarks. BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia clarified that Kangana’s views were personal and not reflective of the party’s stance. He emphasized, “Kangana Ranaut is not authorized to make such a statement on behalf of the BJP, and it doesn’t depict the BJP’s view on the farm bills.”

Kangana Apologizes, Withdraws Comments

After facing backlash from both her party and the public, Kangana Ranaut issued an apology and withdrew her statement. In a video message, she expressed regret for her remarks, stating that her opinions should align with the party’s stance, not her personal views. “I have to keep in mind that I am not just an artist but also a BJP worker. My opinions should not be personal and should be the party’s stand,” she said.

Opposition Criticism: Congress and AAP Respond

Kangana’s comments reignited criticism from opposition parties, with both Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) condemning her stance. Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate remarked, “More than 750 farmers were martyred… only then did the Modi government wake up and these black laws were withdrawn.” Shrinate further accused BJP of planning to bring back the contentious laws.

AAP leaders also responded strongly, with AAP MP Malvinder Singh Kang terming the discussion of reinstating the farm laws “an insult to millions of farmers.” He urged Prime Minister Modi to take action against Kangana Ranaut, accusing her of belittling the farmers’ struggle.

Kangana’s Past Controversies Regarding Farmers’ Protests

This is not the first time Kangana Ranaut has found herself embroiled in controversy related to the farmers’ protests. In 2020, she allegedly misidentified a woman farmer from Punjab as Bilkis Bano, drawing widespread criticism. More recently, in June 2023, that comment resurfaced after Kangana had a confrontation with a CISF officer.

Kangana’s Apology and Future Implications

Kangana Ranaut’s remarks on the farm laws have once again placed her in the center of a political storm. Her quick apology following BJP’s rebuke suggests that she is aware of the political sensitivities surrounding the issue. While opposition parties continue to criticize her, the BJP has made it clear that her views on the farm laws do not represent the party’s position. As a public figure and BJP MP, Kangana’s future comments will likely be more cautious to avoid further controversies.
