Low Pressure Likely to Form in Bay of Bengal Before Durga Puja: What to Expect in the Coming Days
A low-pressure system is likely to form in the northern Bay of Bengal on Friday, just ahead of the Durga Puja festivities, according to the weather department. Due to the choppy sea conditions, fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea until Friday.
While the low-pressure system may increase the chances of rain before Puja, the weather department predicts only light, scattered showers during the festival itself. Some areas may experience brief rainfall, but widespread disruptions are not expected. However, the high humidity levels may lead to discomfort due to moisture in the air.
In North Bengal, all districts are likely to experience rain on Thursday, with heavy rainfall expected in the hilly regions, particularly in Darjeeling and Kalimpong. Meanwhile, South Bengal, especially the coastal districts, may witness scattered rainfall today. The weather department has issued a heavy rain alert for the coastal districts on Friday.
For Kolkata, Thursday’s forecast includes cloudy skies with a slight chance of rain. Temperatures are expected to drop slightly, and while humidity remains high, it may cause discomfort if it doesn’t rain. The city may see a few spells of light to moderate rain on Friday, with thunder and lightning possible. Heavy rainfall is also expected in some parts of North and South 24 Parganas.
As of Thursday, Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 28.2°C, which is 2.4°C above normal. On Wednesday, the maximum temperature was 31°C, 2.2°C lower than the seasonal average. The humidity levels ranged between 83% and 96%. Over the next 24 hours, temperatures in Kolkata are expected to remain between 27°C and 32°C, with only 0.2 mm of rainfall recorded so far.
