TMC Suspends Rajnya Halder Amid Controversy Over RG Kar Short Film

In the wake of the RG Kar incident stirring controversy nationwide, the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) has found itself on the defensive. Amid this backdrop, party member Rajnya Halder has produced a short film titled “Agomoni: The Story of Tilottama,” in which she stars as the lead character. The film has sparked intense debate regarding its intent and the implications of using a sensitive topic for cinematic purposes.

Produced by Halder’s close associate and fellow TMC leader Prantik Chakraborty, the film’s promotional materials have drawn scrutiny, raising questions about whether the TMC is attempting to gain political leverage through this project.

However, in a swift response to the growing controversy, the TMC has officially distanced itself from the film. The party released a statement stating that it had not authorized the film’s creation. Late Friday, TMC’s student wing, the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP), announced the suspension of both Rajnya Halder and Prantik Chakraborty from their positions within the organization.

Kunal Ghosh, a prominent TMC leader, took to X (formerly Twitter) to clarify the party’s stance. He emphasized that the party seeks justice for the Tilottama incident and opposes any attempts to exploit such a sensitive matter for promotional gain. “While everyone has the freedom to create, if anyone connected to the party tries to use this tragic event for publicity, the party will not take responsibility,” Ghosh stated. He reiterated that the party was unaware of the film and instructed the TMCP leadership to investigate the matter and take appropriate action.

The rapid suspension of Halder and Chakraborty reflects the TMC’s commitment to maintaining its integrity in light of the ongoing investigation surrounding the RG Kar incident.
