“Never Seen Such a Crime Before”, TMC MLA Nirmal Ghosh Calls for Strict Punishment after CBI interrogation
After nearly seven hours of interrogation at the CBI office in Kolkata’s CGO Complex, Panihati’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Nirmal Ghosh emerged on Monday evening, expressing deep shock over the horrific incident at RG Kar Medical College. Ghosh, who represents the constituency where the victim resided, stated that this was the first time he had encountered such a gruesome crime in his life. He demanded stringent punishment for those responsible for the assault and murder of the young medical student.
The central investigative agency summoned Ghosh in connection with the case, although the MLA maintained that he had voluntarily scheduled the appointment with the CBI to provide necessary documents. “It is a case from my constituency, and I came here to fulfill my moral responsibility,” Ghosh remarked.
The tragic incident occurred on August 9, when the lifeless body of a medical student was discovered at RG Kar Medical College. Ghosh visited the hospital that same day and, on Monday, reiterated his demand for justice. “The law will follow its course, and the guilty will be punished. The state’s newly enacted laws will be enforced, ensuring justice for this heinous crime,” he said.

Nirmal Ghosh also dismissed allegations that he had engaged in any discussions with the then-principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandeep Ghosh, regarding the case. “I met Sandeep that day, but there were no discussions about the incident,” Ghosh clarified.
Despite criticism about his involvement during the victim’s funeral, Ghosh refrained from addressing the controversy, stating that his movements were not a matter for public debate. He confirmed that if required, he would cooperate with any further CBI inquiries related to the case.
On the day of the incident, Ghosh was the first to publicly reveal the details of the crime. He had stated, “Our focus is on apprehending the main culprit. Senior police officials and administrative officers are all working towards ensuring justice. This was a brutal murder, and we are doing everything in our power to deliver justice.”
As the investigation continues, Nirmal Ghosh’s calls for strict action highlight the severity of the crime that has shocked West Bengal.
