Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran declares ₹1 crore for each deceased passenger's family and promises to bear all medical expenses of the injured. Tata will also help rebuild the damaged medical hostel.

Ahmedabad: In the aftermath of the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, Tata Group has stepped forward to provide financial and humanitarian support to the victims’ families. N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, announced on Thursday that each family of the deceased will receive ₹1 crore in compensation.

Additionally, Tata Group will bear the full medical expenses of the injured. The plane had crashed into the BJ Medical College hostel, causing a massive explosion and leaving the building severely damaged. Five doctors living in the hostel were also killed in the incident. Tata will assist in rebuilding the hostel, Chandrasekaran confirmed.

“Words fall short in the face of such a tragedy,” said the Tata Chairman. “We pray for the families who lost their loved ones and for those who are injured.”

The London-bound Air India aircraft took off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad and crashed within five minutes, near the Meghaninagar area. According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), there were 242 people onboard, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members.

CCTV footage from the airport showed the plane leaning sharply to the left shortly after takeoff. The tail section lowered dramatically before the aircraft crashed into the ground and exploded, all within the airport perimeter.

Reacting to the tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on social media: “I am deeply pained and saddened by the tragedy in Ahmedabad. My thoughts are with the families of the victims and those injured. Government officials and ministers are actively involved in relief efforts.”

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also expressed grief and instructed officials to initiate rescue operations immediately. He confirmed that a green corridor had been created to ensure that the injured were rushed to hospitals quickly.
