Shocking Twist in RG Kar Case: CBI Alleges Link Between Rape-Murder and Corruption

A sensational development has emerged in the rape and murder case of a young female doctor at RG Kar Medical College. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has informed the Calcutta High Court that there is a strong possibility of a link between the rape-murder and a large-scale financial corruption scandal within the hospital.

On Thursday, during a hearing on the bail petitions of Afsar Ali Khan, Suman Hazra, and Biplab Sinha—all known close aides of former principal Dr. Sandeep Ghosh—CBI’s lawyers Rajdeep Majumder and Amajit De submitted a detailed report suggesting the two cases may be connected.

The CBI argued that Sandeep Ghosh and his associates could have a possible role in both the financial scam and the horrific crime involving the woman doctor. The central agency has already started probing whether the motive behind the murder was linked to efforts to suppress evidence of corruption.

Over 200 CCTV footage clips from the hospital premises are currently being examined by CBI officials. The agency has also recorded fresh statements from 12 individuals related to the rape-murder investigation.

💰 Background: Sandeep Ghosh already arrested in financial scam

Back in August 2024, Dr. Sandeep Ghosh was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with alleged embezzlement and corruption at RG Kar Medical College. Three of his close aides were also nabbed during the investigation.

Now, with CBI linking the rape-murder case directly to the financial scam, the case has taken a much more serious turn.

⚖️ Joint hearing for bail applications

Calcutta High Court Justice Shubhra Ghosh has ordered that the bail pleas of all three accused—Afsar Ali Khan, Suman Hazra, and Biplab Sinha—be heard together in the coming sessions. The next hearing is expected to attract significant attention.

Meanwhile, political circles and health department insiders are abuzz with discussions about whether this is merely a criminal incident—or part of a deep-rooted nexus involving corruption, abuse of power, and cover-ups.
