
West Bengal has been reeling under intense heat and humidity for several days. While isolated showers have occurred in some parts, they brought little respite. Now, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a relief forecast — light to moderate rainfall is expected across most parts of Bengal from Thursday till Tuesday (May 21).
A cyclonic circulation over Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Bihar, combined with a trough from Jharkhand to Chhattisgarh, is triggering the change in weather across Bengal.
🚨 Red Alert Issued for 7 Districts in South Bengal
The IMD has issued a Red Alert for 7 districts in South Bengal, warning of:Thunderstorms, Lightning, Gusty winds (50–60 km/h) and Moderate rainfall
Red Alert Districts Today: East Bardhaman, West Bardhaman, Murshidabad, Nadia, Birbhum, Paschim Medinipur and Jhargram. Residents are advised to stay indoors during the peak hours of the storm and avoid any open areas or high structures.

Friday (May 16):
Most districts in South Bengal may receive light to moderate rain.
Heavy showers are likely in North 24 Parganas, East Medinipur, and Murshidabad.
Saturday (May 17):
Murshidabad, Jhargram, Bankura, Purulia, East and West Bardhaman may witness moderate rain.
Light rain expected in other districts.
Sunday (May 18):
Widespread rainfall across South Bengal.
Monday & Tuesday (May 19–20):
Light to moderate rain likely in all South Bengal districts.
Kalbaisakhi (Nor’wester) activity is also expected in many regions.

North Bengal is also expected to receive rain, particularly:
Dinajpur and Malda may witness light to moderate showers today.
Heavy rainfall likely in upper districts near the Himalayas until May 20.

The heatwave conditions may ease over the next few days. IMD expects a 2–3°C drop in maximum daytime temperatures, providing relief to residents of South Bengal.
