
After scattered showers on Sunday, the weather in South Bengal remained oppressively hot. Despite overcast skies, the heat was intense on Monday, leaving people sweating. But there is good news ahead—relief is on the way as the monsoon is expected to arrive in South Bengal by Tuesday, according to the Alipore Meteorological Department.
🌧️ Heavy Rain in Kolkata and Surrounding Areas
Starting Tuesday, heavy rainfall is likely in Kolkata, Howrah, North & South 24 Parganas, Hooghly, East & West Midnapore, and Nadia districts. Dense clouds and continuous rainfall for several hours are expected in these areas on Tuesday and Wednesday.
⚠️ Very Heavy Rain Alert for Key Districts
The weather office has issued very heavy rain alerts for several districts including:

North Bengal is also under weather watch. The Alipore Weather Office has warned of heavy to very heavy rain in Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri. Additionally, Malda, North and South Dinajpur districts may experience significant downpours on Thursday, with rainfall intensity increasing across North Bengal.

🌦️ Monsoon Set to Enter South Bengal
According to the Met Office, the monsoon trough has reactivated, paving the way for monsoon arrival in the southern districts of West Bengal by Wednesday. In the next 24 hours, the trough will extend into parts of Odisha and Chhattisgarh, and in 2–3 days, it will impact West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Gujarat.
With the entry of the monsoon, rainfall will increase across the region, bringing much-needed relief from the sweltering heat. Daytime temperatures are expected to drop slightly due to consistent cloud cover and rainfall.
