Monsoon Set to Enter Andaman on Tuesday! Heatwave Continues in South Bengal, Heavy Rains in the North
Despite isolated rainfall in South Bengal, heatwave persists across several districts. Meanwhile, North Bengal is expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next four days, as per Alipore Meteorological Department.

While Bengal reels under intense summer heat, the Alipore Meteorological Department brings a hopeful update—the Southwest Monsoon is likely to hit the Andaman and Nicobar Islands by Tuesday, marking the first significant monsoon development of 2025.

🔥 South Bengal: Heatwave + Storms Combo

Over the past week, most districts of South Bengal, including Kolkata, have been experiencing soaring temperatures. On Monday, temperatures in Dum Dum and Salt Lake crossed the 40°C mark. According to the weather office:

“Dry westerly winds and hot air blowing from the northwest are creating heatwave-like conditions across South Bengal.”

Some areas did receive isolated rainfall on Monday night, offering temporary relief. But heat is expected to persist through the day on Tuesday.

⛈️ Thunderstorms Expected on Tuesday in These Districts:

  • North 24 Parganas

  • South 24 Parganas

  • Nadia

  • Jhargram

  • East & West Midnapore

Along with rain, wind speeds may reach 40 to 50 km/h, potentially disrupting normal life.


⚠️ Heatwave Alerts in These Districts:

  • Paschim Bardhaman

  • Bankura

  • Jhargram

  • Paschim Midnapore

  • Birbhum

  • Purulia

The combination of heatwaves and sporadic storms will continue across South Bengal throughout the week, with no major drop in temperature until the weekend. By next week, however, temperatures may fall by 2–3°C, bringing some respite.


🌧️ North Bengal: Four Days of Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall

In contrast, North Bengal is expected to see intense monsoon-like activity. As per the latest forecast, several districts will experience heavy to very heavy rain (7–20 cm) over the next four days.

🚨 Districts Likely to Receive Very Heavy Rainfall:

  • Jalpaiguri

  • Alipurduar

  • Cooch Behar

  • Darjeeling

Wind speeds in these areas will also hover around 40–50 km/h.

Meanwhile, Malda and Dakshin Dinajpur are under heatwave watch, despite being part of the northern region.
