For the first time since the recent communal unrest in Murshidabad’s Samserganj, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is visiting the district. Her primary objective is to meet the families of those affected in Dhuliyan and the bereaved family of the father and son killed in Jafrabad.
However, controversy arose just before her visit. Speaking to the press at the Dumurjala helipad, Mamata Banerjee expressed disappointment as the victim families had already left Murshidabad for Kolkata. The Chief Minister accused the BJP of exploiting the tragedy for “vile political games.”
“We will stand by whoever wants to meet,” says Mamata Banerjee
The CM stated: “They’ve left from Dhuliyan with the two families. Fine, they can leave if they want. We tried to offer financial assistance, but they didn’t accept it. BJP leaders gave them money. If someone refuses to meet, we can’t force them. But if anyone wants to meet, I will speak with them.”
Post-Riot Actions and CM’s Delayed Visit Explained
After the violent clashes in Samserganj, Mamata Banerjee had immediately sent the Director General of Police and other senior officers to the spot, with clear orders to ensure all culprits were caught. Disciplinary action has also been taken against officers found negligent.
The CM clarified: “I could’ve visited Murshidabad earlier, but I didn’t want to disturb the peace process. Now that things are under control, I’m going. I also had prior commitments, including the inauguration of the Jagannath temple, which delayed my visit.”
