West Bengal: In the wake of heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding across several districts in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced that farmers whose crops were damaged due to the deluge will be compensated through crop insurance schemes. During her visit to flood-affected areas in East Burdwan on Monday, Banerjee also assured that surveys will be conducted to assess the damage to mud houses, and rehabilitation efforts will follow once the water recedes.

The continuous rain, combined with water released from the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), has wreaked havoc in various districts, with East Burdwan among the worst hit. After assessing the situation and interacting with local residents, the Chief Minister addressed the media, confirming that farmers will be compensated based on the extent of crop loss.
