Winter Chill Grips Bengal as Temperature Dips Further

Kolkata experienced a noticeable drop in temperature as the mercury hit 18.8°C on Monday, a decline from Sunday’s 19°C. This is 1.1 degrees below normal, as reported by the Alipore Weather Office. The maximum temperature recorded on Sunday was 28.4°C, which is also 1.6 degrees below the average for this time of year.

While Kolkata shivered, Purulia in South Bengal witnessed the state’s lowest temperature at 12.7°C on Monday. The weather office has also issued a fog alert for seven districts across North and South Bengal for the coming days.

Temperature Trends Across Bengal

The cold wave has resulted in significant temperature dips across several districts. Here’s a breakdown of temperatures recorded in South Bengal:

  • Uluberia: 16°C
  • Dumdum: 17.7°C
  • Shantiniketan: 13°C
  • Bankura: 16.9°C
  • Canning: 15.4°C
  • Burdwan: 15°C
  • Panagarh: 15.5°C
  • Asansol: 15.9°C
  • Siuri: 15.2°C
  • Jhargram: 14°C
  • Kalyani: 15.8°C

In North Bengal, the chill was even more pronounced, with Darjeeling recording the lowest at 8.4°C. Other notable minimum temperatures include:

  • Alipurduar: 16°C
  • Cooch Behar: 16.7°C
  • Raiganj: 15.9°C
  • Kalimpong: 14.5°C

Fog Alert for Seven Districts

The weather office has predicted light to moderate fog for the next three days in several districts, including Malda, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, West Burdwan, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia.

Outlook for the Coming Days

According to the Alipore Weather Office, the northerly winds have created favorable conditions for the temperature to drop across the state. However, no significant change in minimum temperatures is expected over the next five days in both North and South Bengal.
