Junior Doctors Begin Strike, Lead Massive Rally from College Square to Dharmatala

On the eve of Mahalaya, starting Tuesday, junior doctors in West Bengal resumed their strike, raising fresh demands. Initially, they had presented a 7-point demand to the state government, but now they have updated it to a 10-point list. Along with the strike, the doctors organized a massive rally on Wednesday, calling for justice for the victim from R.G. Kar Medical College and for an end to the atmosphere of fear in all colleges and hospitals across the state. The rally began from College Square and was set to conclude at Dharmatala.

The rally, organized by the West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front, saw participation from a large number of ordinary citizens. The march commenced at 2:05 PM from College Square and proceeded through College Street, MG Road, and CR Avenue, finally heading toward Dharmatala.

As the rally moved forward, it reached MG Road where it briefly paused to allow more people to join. As the numbers grew, the march resumed towards Dharmatala, with the road now flooded with people.

Protesters were carrying their own banners and posters, some of which featured the image of freedom fighter Pritilata Waddedar with slogans such as, “There is no place for rapists in Pritilata’s land.”

The rally served as a powerful message to the state government, as protesters demanded a safe and fear-free environment across all educational institutions and hospitals in the state, along with justice for the victim at R.G. Kar Hospital.
