🔹 TMC’s Counter-March Led by Leaders Sparks Heated Exchange; Police Struggles to Control Situation
Tension flared up again at Jadavpur University as members of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) took to the streets, demanding the resignation of Education Minister Bratya Basu. The protest march, led by the SFI, carried banners stating “We Demand the Resignation of the Education Minister.” To prevent any untoward incidents, Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel were deployed in the area.
📌 Counter-Protest by TMC Sparks Clashes
In retaliation, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) organized a counter-march from Sukanta Setu at 7 PM to protest against the alleged manhandling of Bratya Basu at Jadavpur University. Senior TMC leaders, including Jadavpur MP Sayani Ghosh and Minister Arup Biswas, participated in the rally.
Tensions soared as SFI supporters suddenly arrived at the protest site, leading to sloganeering and verbal clashes between the two groups. The police were forced to intervene, forming a human shield to separate the warring factions and struggling to bring the situation under control.
📌 TMC’s Warning: “Don’t Play with Fire”
During the march, Minister Arup Biswas addressed the protesters, saying,
“We believe in democracy, but I want to tell the Maoists and left extremists—do not create unrest. We will establish democracy in Jadavpur University, and our fight for it will continue. Do not play with fire; the people have already ousted you from Jadavpur.”
📌 Roadblock at Jadavpur Police Station
Following the clashes, SFI members staged a roadblock outside Jadavpur police station, causing significant traffic congestion. The police later dispersed the protesters and restored normalcy.
With tensions still simmering, the situation at Jadavpur University remains volatile, and further protests are expected in the coming days.
