I never got the joy of a son, only the sorrow of losing one: Dilip Ghosh!" – Rinku’s Lament
After her marriage, Rinku Majumdar had grown somewhat melancholic over her only son, Srinjoy.

The sudden death of her 25-year-old son has left Rinku shocked, devastated, and heartbroken. She reveals that after her marriage to Dilip Ghosh, her son Srinjoy Dasgupta tried to appear happy but was actually deeply upset. Srinjoy had wanted to live with her, and Rinku had wanted to discuss this with Dilip. However, she never got the chance. Standing before Srinjoy’s body at Nimtala Crematorium on Tuesday evening, the BJP leader lamented, “I never got the joy of a son, only the sorrow of losing one.”

On Tuesday morning, Srinjoy was found unconscious in his Newtown apartment and rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Grief-stricken, Rinku said, “After my marriage, he was upset. He never said it, but I could tell…” She added, “I had just decided to talk to Dilip about it. He was busy, but I kept saying I would bring my son to live with me or go stay with him. Discussions were happening. Dilip said, ‘Let him adjust a bit. If he were working elsewhere, he’d have to live away too.’ But I knew my son wasn’t being cared for properly. His heart wasn’t at ease. I’m his mother—I could tell!”

Rinku, a BJP leader, married Dilip on April 18. Srinjoy, her only child from her previous marriage, worked in IT. His sudden death, just 25 days after the wedding, has shattered both Rinku and Dilip. The BJP leader said, “I don’t understand what happened! His mother was cooking in the morning when she got a call and rushed out. I still can’t process it.” He added, “A post-mortem will reveal how a healthy young boy left us so suddenly.”

Dilip mentioned that he had known Srinjoy long before the marriage—they had even watched games together and shared a good bond. Rinku revealed that her son lived with friends in the apartment. On Tuesday morning, she received a call from his girlfriend and rushed over. “Two colleagues visited him on Monday—one at 10 PM, another at 3 AM. At midnight, he told me, ‘I’ll go to Durgapur tomorrow, then Science City by 8 AM.’”

She shared that Srinjoy had a neurological condition and had once lost consciousness a year ago, after which he was on medication. However, he had stopped taking his pills recently. “He never said it aloud, but perhaps he dreamed of living with me. I told him, ‘I’ll bring you home soon, and we’ll live together.’ But I was worried—he wasn’t eating well. I cook here, but where he stayed, the cook had left. My son, who never stayed away from home, was now living in a friend’s flat.”

Rinku recalled that Srinjoy would tell his colleagues, “You live with your parents—you won’t understand.” Other times, he’d say, “I’m happy.” “I don’t know what happened,” she said, now awaiting the autopsy report.
