Siliguri, West Bengal: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has once again emphasized the importance of small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in driving West Bengal’s economy. During her visit to North Bengal, she met with traders and business groups at Dinabandhu Bhavan in Siliguri and shared inspiring success stories of small-scale entrepreneurs.
“Even a small potato chop or beguni (eggplant fritter) shop can help build a three-story house. Hard work and dedication can turn small investments into big success,” she said.
From Small Snack Shops to Big Success Stories, CM Mamata Encouragement to Entrepreneurs

Mamata Banerjee cited the example of “Apanjan,” a popular chop (snack) shop in South Kolkata, to illustrate how humble beginnings can lead to substantial earnings. “Have you ever seen an empty tea or momo stall? Small businesses never go out of demand,” she remarked.
Focus on Small Businesses & Criticism from Opponents
The CM stressed that “micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are the backbone of Bengal’s economy.” However, she also took a dig at opposition parties, saying, “When I encourage small businesses, critics mock me. But I’ve seen families thriving by selling simple snacks like ghugni (spiced peas).”
