A recent internal investigation at RG Kar Medical College has uncovered shocking details about the growing prevalence of “threat culture” within the institution. According to the report, 59 individuals have been implicated in a wide range of serious offenses, including ragging, sexual harassment, and threats. The college council, based on the findings of the investigation committee, has taken decisive action, resulting in the expulsion of 10 students and sanctions against others.

Details of the Allegations

The investigation revealed that students were subjected to extreme physical and mental abuse if they refused to comply with the demands of the accused. Allegedly, students were called into hostel rooms at 3 AM and threatened with failure if they did not join a specific political party or attend its rallies and meetings. The victims were also subjected to abusive language aimed at their parents, further compounding the psychological trauma.

List of Expelled Students

Ten individuals listed under Category 1A, including Sourav Pal, Ashish Pandey, Abhishek Sen, Ayushree Thapa, Nirjan Bagchi, Sharif Hasan, Nilagni Debnath, Amarendra Singh, Satpal Singh, and Tanvir Ahmed Kazi, have been expelled. Among these, several face accusations of sexual harassment. Ragging allegations against these students will be addressed by the anti-ragging committee. The expelled students have been given 72 hours to vacate their hostels, and their registrations are set to be canceled, with their names being forwarded to the West Bengal Medical Council and the state grievance cell. Parents of the accused are also being summoned.

Disciplinary Actions for Other Categories

In Category 1B, 27 students were implicated in cases of sexual harassment and ragging. These students have been ordered to leave the hostels within 72 hours. Medical students under this category have been banned from entering the college for one year, while interns face a six-month suspension. House staff involved have had their positions terminated, and a separate investigation has been launched into allegations of financial misconduct against some of the accused.

In Category 2, 16 students were accused of similar offenses, including sexual harassment and ragging. These individuals have been banned from entering the campus for six months, while interns have been suspended for three months. The house staff implicated in this category have also lost their positions.

Finally, six students in Category 3 have been issued warnings, and their parents are being called in for further discussions.
