Power Struggles Within Bengal BJP – The BJP in West Bengal is once again witnessing a crucial political turn. Amid growing internal rifts, lack of direction, and weakening organizational structure, sources suggest that the party’s central leadership — with the backing of the RSS in Nagpur — is reposing its faith in Dilip Ghosh to revive the state unit.
Dilip Ghosh played a key role in the party’s rise during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Bengal. However, after that peak, the reins were handed over to Sukanta Majumdar. Under his leadership, the organizational base failed to strengthen significantly. Meanwhile, tensions between Suvendu Adhikari in South Bengal and Sukanta in the North have often surfaced publicly.
Decline After Suvendu’s Rise: The party’s popularity in the state has declined notably after Suvendu Adhikari’s rise to prominence. Many in the party attribute this to his past associations with minority appeasement politics and his frequent controversial remarks. In contrast, Dilip Ghosh’s blunt and aggressive style of communication is now being seen as potentially effective in rallying the cadre and consolidating the base.
Dilip Ghosh May Return as Bengal BJP President to Counter Suvendu Adhikari’s Influence

Digha Visit and Political Signals: Dilip Ghosh recently visited Digha with his wife — officially a personal trip — but it carried deeper political significance. Notably, he passed through Kanthi, Suvendu’s home turf, on the same day a ‘Sanatani Sammelan’ was organized there by Suvendu. Dilip skipped the event and instead exchanged pleasantries with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Digha, triggering speculation.
Some began to wonder — is Dilip moving closer to TMC? However, Dilip quickly dismissed such speculation, stating, “I may quit politics, but I will never quit the BJP.” His comment, though diplomatically loaded, temporarily ruled out any switch to the Trinamool Congress.
A Cold War Between Two Leaders? According to sources close to Dilip, one major source of tension stems from the 2024 Lok Sabha ticket distribution — where Dilip was reportedly shifted from his stronghold Medinipur to another constituency at Suvendu’s suggestion. This soured their relationship further. Suvendu’s absence at Dilip’s wedding and his later snide comments about the Digha trip reflect an ongoing cold war between the two leaders.
Delhi’s Calculations: In the eyes of the BJP central leadership, Dilip Ghosh’s sharp, bold rhetoric continues to resonate with grassroots workers. His confrontational stance against TMC and mass connect are qualities the party believes could help restore momentum. There is growing speculation that Dilip may be reinstated as state president to counterbalance Suvendu’s dominance and rebuild the fractured organization.
