Depression Over Bay of Bengal Closing in on Digha Coast, Landfall Expected by Thursday Evening!

A well-marked depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal is likely to make landfall between West Bengal and Bangladesh coast by evening; IMD issues heavy to very heavy rainfall warnings across Bengal.

The depression that had been brewing over the Bay of Bengal has intensified and is now well-marked over the northwest part of the sea. According to the Alipore Meteorological Department, the system is likely to make landfall by Thursday evening between Sagar Island in West Bengal and Khepupara in Bangladesh.

As of Thursday morning, the depression was positioned:

🌧️ Rainfall Alerts Across Bengal:

Due to the depression, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in South Bengal districts like Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East Medinipur, East Burdwan, Nadia, and Murshidabad.

Rainfall estimates:

On Friday, South Bengal districts could receive 7–11 cm rainfall, after which weather is expected to improve slightly.

🏔️ Red Alert in North Bengal:

The impact will also be felt in North Bengal.

🌊 High Alert for Coastal & Sea Areas:

The IMD warns of rough to very rough sea conditions from May 28 to May 30 in:

Wind speed may reach 45–65 km/h. Fishermen are strictly advised not to venture into the sea during this time. Tourists in coastal areas are also urged to remain cautious.
