Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has demanded the maximum punishment for Sanjay Roy, the accused in the gruesome rape and murder of a young doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. In its final closing submission at the Alipore District Court on Friday, the CBI termed the incident a ‘rarest of rare crime.’
The CBI argued, “This heinous crime was committed in a most brutal manner, challenging the moral fabric of society. The court must deliver an exemplary verdict to send a strong message against such acts.”
Sanjay Roy, currently in judicial custody, faces charges under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 376 (rape), 302 (murder), and 449 (criminal trespass). From the outset, the CBI has maintained a firm stance, presenting all necessary evidence to establish the guilt of the accused.
In court, CBI’s counsel emphasized, “This crime not only claimed a life but also shattered public trust in the medical profession. Awarding the harshest punishment is essential to uphold societal values and justice.”
The case has drawn widespread attention across the state and the country. The CBI’s efforts to ensure justice have been lauded by various sections of society. The court is expected to announce its verdict next week.
The entire nation is now awaiting the court’s decision, while the victim’s family and colleagues hope for justice to prevail in this landmark case.
