News Desk | May 3, 2025: In a serious breach of protocol, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has dismissed jawan Munir Ahmed for allegedly hiding his marriage to a Pakistani woman and assisting her in staying in India even after her visa expired.
Munir was posted in Jammu & Kashmir when he married Minal Khan, a resident of Sialkot, Punjab province of Pakistan. Their relationship began online in May 2024, leading to a virtual “nikah” (Islamic marriage). Minal later arrived in India on a short-term visa, which expired on March 22, 2025. Despite this, she remained in India with the alleged knowledge and help of her husband.
🛂 Visa Violation and Security Breach
After the Pahalgam incident, India had canceled visas of several Pakistani citizens, asking those on short-term visas to leave by April 27. Those on medical visas were given a two-day extension. Amid this tense diplomatic environment, Munir’s actions raised red flags. A CRPF internal inquiry concluded that Munir had hidden critical information about his marriage and his wife’s overstayed visa—serious violations of force protocol and national security norms.
🧑⚖️ Case Pending in Jammu & Kashmir High Court
As the controversy escalated, Munir approached the Jammu & Kashmir High Court to prevent his wife from being deported. The court issued an interim stay order, halting her return. The next hearing is scheduled for May 14, and both the central and union territory governments have been asked to submit their official stands.
🚌 Court Order Reached Just in Time
As Minal boarded a bus to return to Pakistan via the Attari-Wagah border, she received a phone call from her lawyer informing her of the stay order. She got off the bus and remained in India as per court instructions.
🔍 CRPF Takes Strict Action
Following the internal probe, the CRPF released an official statement calling Munir’s conduct a violation of service rules and detrimental to national security, leading to his immediate dismissal from the force.
📍 Background on Visa and Exit Permit
As per Bar & Bench, after Minal’s visa expired, she was granted an exit permit—a temporary document issued when a foreign national’s visa expires and their extension is pending. However, this permit was later revoked. The court clarified that the decision to grant her a long-term visa rests with the Government of India.
