Heavy rainfall triggers multiple landslides across Darjeeling, disrupting life and claiming one life as festive season approaches. According to local sources and administrative reports, the deceased has been identified as Raghuvir Rai, a 78-year-old resident of Sukhia block. The incident occurred in the early hours of the day when heavy rains triggered a landslide in Bujua village, located in the Plungdung Gram Panchayat under the Sukhia block. Raghuvir was inside his home when the landslide struck, leading to his untimely death. Upon receiving the news, the Block Development Officer (BDO) and Officer-in-Charge (OC) rushed to the scene. The administration has extended financial support to the victim’s family, offering condolences and assistance in their time of need.

Throughout Wednesday, heavy rainfall continued to batter the hills of Darjeeling, causing widespread destruction. Numerous roads have been blocked due to landslides, severely hampering transportation in the region. National Highway 10, which serves as a major route, has been shut down. Roads leading to popular tourist destinations like Rock Garden have also been closed, along with the route to Darjeeling via Rimbik. The area around Singtam Chikmane has suffered the most damage.
