CM Mamata forming a seven-member committee to redress complaints in the health sector

In a significant move to address irregularities in government hospitals, the state government has decided to form a seven-member committee. Headed by SSKM Hospital’s Visiting Consultant, Dr. Saurav Dutta, the committee will address complaints related to healthcare services. Citizens can lodge their grievances via email, as per a notification issued by the state government on Tuesday. The committee’s office will be located at Swasthya Bhavan in Salt Lake.

The formation of this committee comes in the wake of recent incidents at RG Kar Medical College, where concerns over the safety and security of doctors, junior doctors, and healthcare workers were raised. Junior doctors have demanded protection after facing harassment, leading to a full-scale protest and work strike across several medical colleges.

The junior doctors, united under a common platform, have raised a 10-point demand to the state government. The ongoing situation, coupled with widespread calls for reforms, led to the creation of this committee. In addition to Dr. Saurav Dutta, the committee includes notable doctors like Dr. Debjani Banerjee from Barasat Medical College, Dr. Yogeeraj Roy from SSKM, and other senior medical professionals from different institutions across the state.

Dr. Saurav Dutta emphasized the importance of this responsibility, stating, “It is undoubtedly a crucial role, and we will work closely with senior officials to resolve the issues.” Sources have confirmed that the committee will meet with state health officials on Wednesday to initiate their work.

The impartiality of the committee is being highlighted, as none of its members are directly associated with any political party, ensuring a neutral and unbiased approach in addressing healthcare grievances.
