In the wake of recent unrest in Murshidabad linked to Wakf land disputes, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arrived in the district and immediately began inspecting various government offices. Accompanied by Chief Secretary Manoj Pant and the District Magistrate, the CM spoke directly with government staff to ensure smooth functioning and prompt public service delivery.
“Are all departments functioning properly?” — Mamata questions officials on the ground
Soon after landing, Mamata Banerjee visited multiple administrative departments and engaged with employees, asking whether they were performing their duties diligently. This proactive approach is seen as a part of her strict governance following violent incidents in Samserganj earlier this April, which included vandalism, attacks on police vehicles, and property damage allegedly fueled by communal tension over Wakf land.
Police crackdown, arrests, and disciplinary action after Samserganj violence
In response to the violence, the CM had dispatched top police officials, including the Director General, to bring the situation under control. Many suspects have been arrested, and disciplinary actions have been taken against police officers found guilty of negligence. At the time, Mamata had stated that she would visit only after peace was restored — a promise she fulfilled with this tour.
