Since early morning, heavy rainfall has drenched Kolkata, leaving many parts of the city under water. Despite prior preparations by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), which had set up a control room to manage the rain’s impact, even the road in front of the control room is submerged. Officers and workers are seen wading through knee-deep water to reach their offices.
In North Kolkata, heavily affected areas include Central Avenue, Thanthania Kali Bari, and College Street. The KMC is using pumps to clear the water from streets. However, the continuous rain has led to water accumulation in other key areas, including the VIP Road near Haldiram’s and the railway lines at Sealdah, which temporarily halted train services before pumps were used to restore operations.
