CBI’s Strongest Evidence Yet! Major Turn in RG Kar Case, All Eyes on Monday’s Proceedings

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is set to begin the trial for the horrific RG Kar hospital incident involving the alleged rape and murder of a medical student. The case, which has garnered nationwide attention, marks a significant turn as the CBI has now gathered what it describes as “crucial biological evidence” against the prime accused, Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer. This evidence, according to CBI sources, is instrumental in supporting their case against the accused in court.

The trial will commence on Monday, November 11, following the completion of the formal charge framing process at the Sealdah Court. This development follows a swift 87-day investigation, with the charge sheet filed 28 days ago. Sealdah Court previously announced that the trial hearings would proceed daily, ensuring prompt judicial proceedings. CBI sources reveal that the prosecution will present 51 witnesses to testify, including family members and acquaintances of the victim.

Key Evidence in the Case

The CBI’s charge sheet, submitted to Sealdah Court, indicates the presence of vital biological evidence that connects Sanjay Roy directly to the crime. This evidence, along with material recovered from the crime scene—including the victim’s clothing, bedding, and other personal belongings—was initially collected by Kolkata Police and later handed over to the CBI for further investigation.

The CBI’s legal representatives emphasize that the trial is based on a preliminary charge sheet. Currently, only Sanjay Roy has been formally charged in the case, while allegations of conspiracy and abetment involving additional suspects remain under investigation. Former RG Kar principal Sandeep Ghosh and the ex-officer-in-charge of Tala Police Station, Abhijit, are reportedly under scrutiny, with further charges anticipated against them.

Court Proceedings and Witness Testimonies

The victim’s family and close acquaintances, listed as primary witnesses, will likely be among the first called to testify in court. The Sealdah Court has already scheduled daily hearings to ensure an expedited trial process. The CBI’s legal team remains optimistic, given the strong evidentiary base, which includes forensic findings and key testimonies that could solidify their case.

Ongoing Investigation and Future Charges

Although the primary focus currently rests on Roy, CBI sources confirm that the investigation extends to other possible co-conspirators. Reports suggest that Sandeep Ghosh had contacted the officer-in-charge at Tala Police Station following the incident, leading investigators to probe potential links. Sources indicate that the CBI may soon bring additional charges against Ghosh and Abhijit for their possible involvement or failure to act.

With Monday marking the official start of this critical trial, both the CBI and the general public await the outcome of what could be a landmark case in India’s criminal justice system.
